Pyramid of Desire: The Hidden Link Between Chakras, Glands & Hormones (Part 1)

Namaste!

In this article, we’re going to look at the hormone system through the lens of a model you might already know — Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

But here’s the exciting twist: I’ve taken that framework and created something new that I call the Pyramid of Desire.

This pyramid connects the seven chakras with the seven major endocrine glands in your body, along with their key hormones.

👉 Before we dive in, I want to gift you something.

I’ve put together a free Hormone Imbalance Fix Guide that explains today’s lesson in even more detail.

It also gives you holistic remedies to balance weak chakras, optimize hormones like cortisol, insulin, and thyroid, and address issues like skin flare-ups, estrogen dominance, low testosterone, PCOS, PMS, and much more.

The Root Chakra

The Root Chakra (Muladhara) — Foundation of Energy

At the very base of the Pyramid of Desire is the Root Chakra or Muladhara. This is where everything begins.

● In Maslow’s hierarchy, the base is all about survival — food, shelter, and security.

● In yogic wisdom, this chakra is the foundation of your energy.

If these basic needs aren’t met, nothing else matters. For example, when you’re stressed about paying rent or don’t feel safe in your neighborhood, it’s almost impossible to focus on growth or a higher purpose.

That’s Root energy at play.

The core theme here is Trust  trust in a higher power, that whatever is happening (good or bad) is ultimately for the greater good. The opposite of trust is fear.

When the root chakra is weak, anxiety takes over.

Fatigue creeps in especially in the mornings because this chakra is linked to cortisol, the body’s main stress hormone.

Balanced vs. Overactive Root Chakra

● A balanced Root creates stability and grounded energy.

● An overactive Root Chakra shows up as over-attachment to routine, possessions, or money. Think of someone who hoards wealth yet still feels insecure.

Just like a tree can’t grow tall without deep roots, your personal and spiritual growth depends on the health of Muladhara.

This chakra is tied to the adrenal glands, which produce cortisol — a hormone that sparks energy but, when imbalanced, can create chaos in your body.

The Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) — Creativity & Reproduction

The next level in the pyramid is the Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana.

Its core theme is creativity and reproduction.

Humans are happiest when we create not when we just consume.

This chakra carries the life force of creativity that allows us to design our lives.

It is also tied to sexual energy and reproduction, connecting to the gonads — ovaries in women and testes in men.

Balanced vs. Imbalanced Sacral Chakra

● A healthy Sacral fuels art, innovation, and meaningful connection.

● An overactive Sacral often turns into a center of addicted pleasures compulsive eating, alcohol, sex, or shopping.

Instead of us enjoying pleasure in balance, pleasure begins to control us.

Physical imbalances in this chakra often show up as:

● Estrogen dominance

● Low testosterone

● PCOS, PMS, or infertility

● Menstrual irregularities

The Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) — Power & Confidence

Rising higher, we reach the Solar Plexus Chakra or Manipura.

This is the fire of willpower, discipline, and self-mastery. Its core theme is confidence.

● A weak Manipura shows up as low confidence, poor discipline, and feeling lost.

● A strong Manipura fuels ambition, drive, and achievement.

But here’s the caution: when ego takes over, energy gets stuck here.

Obsession with money, fame, or power becomes the trap.

In Maslow’s hierarchy, this corresponds to esteem and achievement.

Once your survival and creative needs are met, the next desire is to stand in your own power.

Physical Connection

Manipura is linked to the pancreas, which produces insulin the hormone that regulates blood sugar.

Insulin ensures your cells get the energy they need and keeps your metabolism stable.

When Manipura is balanced:

● Digestion is smooth

● Energy feels steady

● You feel fueled, not drained

When imbalanced:

● Digestive issues (IBS, ulcers, constipation)

● Metabolic issues (diabetes, liver/pancreatic imbalance)

● Chronic fatigue or bloating

Think of Manipura as your inner sun the fire that powers your body and mind.

Coming Next: The Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Now that we’ve explored the foundation of Muladhara, the creativity of Svadhisthana, and the fiery power of Manipura, we’ll rise into the Heart Chakra — Anahata in Part 2 of this series.

This is the center of love, compassion, and connection.

Final Thoughts

The Pyramid of Desire is a powerful framework that bridges:

● The seven chakras

● The seven endocrine glands

● The hormones that shape your health and energy

When these are aligned, your energy rises smoothly from survival to self-mastery, and ultimately to higher consciousness.
