Circadian Living: The Forgotten Key to Effortless Health

Last week I talked about a forgotten pillar of health one that’s quietly killing many city dwellers.

Human beings weren’t designed to live in sealed boxes with concrete, air-conditioning, and Wi-Fi routers.

We were made to live in nature. If you haven’t seen that video yet, go back and watch it.

My mission is simple: help as many people as possible shift into the Green Zone the zone of abundance, vitality, and near-perfect health.

To do that, you need ‘holistic’ in your dictionary.

Most people major in minor things.

They obsess over exotic powders, fat burners, or multivitamins while still sleeping 5 hours a night, eating ultra-processed food, and barely moving.

Or they spend hours logging every grain of rice while ignoring the real quality of their food.

They buy smart rings and red-light gadgets, but don’t get sunlight, drink water, or have consistent bedtimes. You see the mismatch.

That’s why I created Green Zone Living  built on 11 core health pillars.

But most people obsess over just two or three.

That’s like relying on UVB sun for vitamin D in the right dose it heals; in excess it damages.

Similarly, focusing on just one or two areas while neglecting the rest will never get you to true, lasting health.

If you settle for substandard health  accepting headaches, joint pain, gut issues that’s just surviving, not thriving.

If you keep making excuses like ‘I don’t have time,’ you’ll find time soon enough  for illness, pain, and hospital visits.

Prevention is better than cure.

So if you’re still reading, it means you care enough to take the first step into the Green Zone.

Circadian-Aligned Living

Consider the Bio Rhythm Wheel.

It’s the idea of living in harmony with nature’s clock.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), there’s an organ clock: each body organ has a time of peak activity in the 24-hour cycle.

What if, instead of fighting that rhythm, you flowed with it?

Health becomes easier. Energy becomes abundant.

You align with nature’s logic.

Let me walk you through how your day can shift when you live aligned with the natural clock.

Time Windows

5 to 7 a.m. – Large Intestine Time

This is nature’s detox window.

It’s when the body naturally wants to eliminate waste.

Support it by waking, drinking warm water (with lemon, optional), and giving your body a chance to cleanse before eating.

Hold off on heavy foods so your system completes its natural detox cycle.

Also, this is prime time to step outside.

Early sunlight resets your circadian rhythm.

Combine that with movement—walk, yoga, or anything that gets your circulation going and activates your lymphatic system so your immune system wakes up.

If you can rise earlier (around 4 a.m.), that’s Brahma Muhurta  the most powerful spiritual hour.

One hour of meditation, mantra, or prayer in this window sets a tone of clarity and purpose for the whole day.

7 to 9 a.m. – Stomach Time

Your digestive fire (Agni) is strong now.

It’s ideal for a nourishing breakfast of warm, easy-to-digest foods (porridge, cooked fruit, herbal teas).

If you practice intermittent fasting, you can push breakfast later  but for many people, this window is the natural prime time.

9 to 11 a.m. – Spleen / Earth Time

In TCM, the spleen is tied to the Earth element and mental clarity.

This is your zone for deep, focused work, problem-solving, and creative tasks. Use this time well.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Heart Time

The heart is active during this period. Lunch is best between 12–1 p.m., ideally shared.

In TCM, how you eat matters  calmly, joyfully, in connection.

1 to 3 p.m. – Small Intestine Time

Digestion and absorption are in full swing.

That explains the common afternoon crash.

A short walk or power nap (20 minutes max) can help, but avoid going overboard.

3 to 5 p.m. – Bladder / Peak Productivity

People often feel a second wind now.

It’s a great time for learning, study, or workouts.

Gyms tend to be less crowded too.

5 to 7 p.m. – Kidney Time

In TCM, kidneys are the root of vitality. Dinner is best here  warm, nourishing, balanced food.

Also it’s a good time for connection: family, conversation, depth.

7 to 9 p.m. – Pericardium / Wind-Down

Your body transitions into rest mode.

Light conversation, journaling, planning  okay.

But avoid heavy work, intense emails, or scary content. The body asks you to slow.

9 to 11 p.m. – Triple Burner / Fire Element

This slot is crucial. The Triple Burner organ system (in TCM) is active now.

It’s ideal to be in bed by 10 p.m., screens off by 9 p.m., no caffeine after 3 p.m., and your last meal 4–5 hours before sleep.

That way your body can go into restorative mode.

Modern life pulls us in the opposite direction: late dinners, nighttime snacking, work till midnight, screens on especially in big cities.

This misalignment is one reason chronic health issues are rising.

Night Hours: Repair & Rejuvenation

Here’s how your body ideally works while you sleep:

*  11 p.m. to 1 a.m.Gallbladder / Wood Element: Bile is released for fat digestion and detox.

But only if you’re asleep — if you’re awake, energy gets diverted away from repair.

*  1 a.m. to 3 a.m.Liver / Wood Element: Deep detox, hormone balancing, cell repair. Late food or alcohol disrupts this cycle.

*  3 a.m. to 5 a.m.Lungs / Metal Element: Oxygenation, renewal, respiratory repair.

Some traditions link this time to emotional detox of grief or stored tension.

If you awake naturally in this slot and feel refreshed, it’s a sign your body has completed essential repair.

Why This Matters

You’re not fighting your body  you’re working with it.

Digestion when digestion is strongest, work when mental focus is sharpest, rest when repair is deepest.

That’s circadian-aligned living.

Modern research backs it: circadian disruption  from artificial light, shift work, late meals is strongly linked to metabolic disease, hormone imbalance, cardiovascular issues, and more.

Ayurveda’s daily routine Dinacharya is built around this wisdom.

Its practices waking early, timed meals, activity windows, restful sleep  help maintain your internal clock (circadian rhythm) and biological health.

Final Thoughts

Yes, circadian-aligned living can feel difficult in modern rhythm especially in cities where nights are late and routines chaotic.

But true health the Green Zone demands alignment, not resistance.

You won’t reach the Green Zone by squeezing in isolated hacks while ignoring the bigger structure of life.

You’ll get there by building consistent habits that sync you with nature’s clock.
