Q) Hey Akash, can you suggest ways to detox that will help me reduce my belly fat?

 

A) Hi. Thanks for your question. Heard it the first time: Belly Fat Detox!

 

Well, come to think of it, it’s simply a detox that one should do every 3 months or so that can help you in many ways and not just to reduce your belly fat.

 

Being bloated and inflamed can give the perception that you have excess belly fat.

 

For example, currently, my waist is 30. But due to various reasons that I discuss in a while, my waist balloons to 31–32 inches, obviously temporary. But when this bloating/inflammation persists longer than it should, then you got problems and following the steps that I am about to tell you will help you a lot.

 

Reasons behind bloating/inflammation and what you can do about it:

 

1) You Are Allergic To A Given Food

 

90% of food happens due to lactose, eggs, peanuts, wheat/gluten. Maintain a food diary and see how you feel after 30 minutes of eating a meal. Your body has an innate wisdom and tells you when it’s not happy with something.

 

For example, if you are lactose intolerant, you will feel bloated after you had milk. Ideally, stop having milk for a week or two and see if it cures your bloating.

 

2) You Eat Beans

 

I eat Rajma/Chole (red beans/chickpeas) once per week. I just love its taste and its superior nutrient profiling. But it gives me gas, and my stomach is bloated. After a while, I am fine.

 

If you don’t like bloating, stop having beans.

 

3) You Are Too Much Into Fizzy Drinks

 

Drinking soda and other drinks. These drinks have carbon dioxide that causes bloating.

 

4) You Talk A Lot While Eating

 

You inhale a lot of air while eating, which then gets in your stomach.

 

5) You Don’t Start Your Day Well

 

Instead of straight away going for coffee/tea, have water, apple cider vinegar, matcha tea, ginger tea, lemon juice and so forth. These will ease your stomach, alkaline your body and help you get rid of toxins.
