We talked about working out 3 times a week in the previous article. If you haven’t read it already, make sure you do!

So, we have 3 days and we should try and make the best of it. What exercises would you chose? Most of us opt for exercises which are isolated in nature and we end up working on fancy machines in our gym.

We feel good when we get a pump in our arms and convince ourselves that we have had a damn good workout! Well, have you really?

Perry Radar (Editor of Iron Magazine) gained over 100 lbs in less than 2 years by only performing 4 exercises.

1. Barbell Squat: warm-up plus 1×20
2. Breathing Pullover: 1×20-30
3. Parallel Bar Dip: warm-up plus 3×10-12
4. Pulldown: warm-up plus 3×10-12

How is this possible? Recently, I read Perry Marshall’s amazing book 80/20 sales and marketing, and he boldly states,

“Everything that you do, 80/20 rule applies.” 1http://amzn.to/1PCeoVs

What it means is that 80% of your results come from 20% of your effort. And it is compounded henceforth!!

I thought l’d start applying 80/20 in various aspects of my life.

First thing that came to my mind was my traveling. It usually took me 25 minutes to get from my office to work. Now, according to this principle 20% of roads should carry 80% of the traffic. Once compounded 4% will carry 64% of the traffic!.

Over a period of a few days, I did some research, tired various routes and voila! Now, it takes me anything from 7 to 10 minutes to reach my office, depending on the time of day.

While reading this book, it hit me that I had already been applying this principle in my training regimes as well.

For the last 2 years, I had been focusing on reducing my workout time drastically from 12-15 hours a week to only a mere 3-6 hours a week. The results have been exceptional!

So now you would understand when I say that out of all the exercises that we do, only 4% of the exercise yields 64% of the results. Going back to Perry Radar, he gained 100 lbs in 2 years by performing only 4 exercises!

Shifting your focus to performing those 4% of the exercises in every workout ( i would add military press to the four exercises mentioned in Perry Radar’s case ), will not only double your results but you will be able to utilize your precious time in other meaningful pursuits!
